On Friday and Saturday two symbolic events were held to commemorate Freedom Day 1979 in Gozo. An orchestral concert was held at the New Lyceum Hall by the Malta National Youth Orchestra which evening was patronized by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, who was accompanied by his wife Mrs Michelina Refalo.

Also present was H. E. Mgr Dr Joe Vella Gauci, Ambassador to UNESCO, Mr Guido Vella Chairman of the Gozo Cultural Council and Mrs M Vella and various guests. The orchestra was conducted by Prof. Joseph Vella

The second commemorative event was held on Sunday evening with the inauguration of a photographic exhibition relating to the 31st March events held in Malta and Gozo back in 1979.

Mr Manuel Grima introduced the evening while Mr Guido Vella delivered a message to commemorate this event.

Dr Anton Refalo, Minister for Gozo closed the evening with a short address and inaugurated the photographic exhibition.
