“Decisions taken in the institutions of the European Union will continue to influence the lives of the people of Malta and Gozo. It is in the interest of Malta that the Labour Party participates actively in these decisions and that it receives the electorate’s support in the elections for the European Parliament next May.”
Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant made this appeal to Labour voters during a packed social activity organised by Labour MP Tony Agius Decelis in Qawra.
Alfred Sant asked Labour voters to remain vigilant in defending the new Government. “The PN is still not accepting the fact that it is now in Opposition and is seeking to destabilise government initiatives and policies which have a clear electoral mandate.”
Alfred Sant, who will be contesting the EP elections, said he understands the temptation of abstaining among a number of Labour voters, who feel they should have been treated better, but warned that those who do this will regret it afterwards.
“The new Government should be given time to develop its policies. Those who judge prematurely will play in the Opposition’s hands which at the moment is only seeking to hinder government’s policies without proposing any new solutions,” Sant concluded.
