The Coalition for the Abolition of Spring Hunting (CASH) has said that if the 100,000 signature petition submitted by the FKNK to Parliament today represents genuine support for spring hunting, “it will make for an interesting and lively debate in the run-up to a national referendum on the issue next year.”
Earlier, the FKNK had presented a petition to Parliamentary Secretary Michael Falzon, calling for an amendment to the Refernda Act “to safeguard the rights of minority groups.”
The Hunters’ Association said that the petition has 104,293 signatures, and it was presented, following a march down Republic Street, which was also attended by Cyrus Engerer and Clint Camilleri.
Mr Falzon, after accepting the petition, said that he will present it on the Table of the House of Representatives tomorrow.

Commenting later, the Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party, Beppe Fenech Adami said that the Nationalist Party is in favour of a controlled spring hunting season, and the Party had defended those rights in the European Court
He explained that the PN does not believe that the right to hold a referendum should be restricted

Have the people who signed the pro-hunting petition been verified as eligible to vote in Malta – the same as those who voted against hunting had to be vetted? The same stringent checks should be applied if the pro-hunting petition is to be taken seriously.
Quite agree, this is manipulation by consent. It’s also unconstitutional.

I think that to conjure up 100,000 votes, with few people even knowing there is a petition, is suspicious!
I doubt that they are verified and I also doubt that 25% of the entire population are pro hunting!

@Peter. Yes – if the pro-hunting lobby has collected signatures from anyone be it locals, tourists, minors, people with pseudonyms, etc – then it it does not have the validity of the anti-hunting petition which has verified signatures from people with ID #’s showing they are eligible to vote in Malta. And an even bigger yes if the pro-hunting petition was couched in terms of pro-minorities and not directly about pro-hunting.
As anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows only too well this latest stunt by the FKNK is nothing but lies. In order to be able to say that this so called petition represents genuine support for spring hunting it would need to have been worded in such a way that the people signing it knew they were signing something that had to do with hunting. That wasn’t the case. The petition was worded in such a way that those signing it thought they were supporting ‘minority groups.’ So how many of these people are going to support the hunters in a referendum when they know exactly what they are voting for? What about all the holiday makers who were asked to sign a petition in support of minority groups? What about all the children who were made to sign it when they obviously won’t have a vote in a referendum? Also interesting that out of this great 104,000 majority support only a hundred or so turned up in Valletta. Also interesting that Clint Camilleri found it necessary to support the bird slaughterers. Now we know that he hates birds as well as trees.
Mr Tyrrell Ifully agree with you abou tQala mayor . He took the chance to get elected for the EU but wasn`t successful enough. I heard that he organized a big carcade for what? . Can you imagine if he was elected. Maybe we would have had a national holiday
Well said James. All your points are relevant. I’m shocked to find out that Clint Camilleri is a knuckle dragger. I expected better of him. To think, I almost voted for him as an MEP! Thank God I didn’t. I suspect he has done grave damage to his political ambitions by admitting he is a bird slaughterer. 100 people turning up to demonstrate what they consider to be a majority consensus is laughable. They are as extinct as the dinosaurs.
Well done Clint for the European Parliament election excellent result. Gozo needs people like you to hear for our belongings especially the need of a fixed link between Gozo and Malta so that our island will not die in the near future.
A fixed air link will be what kills Gozo off as a tourist destination. Why do you think people go there in the first place? Answer, because it is isolated from the mainland. It is a quiet tranquil place to have a holiday and you think it would make sense to have light aircraft taking off and landing all day?
