Nadur’s Mnarja Philharmonic Band will be performing its annual, popular, June Symphonic Concert entitled ‘Big Band Adventures’ at Arch. Martin Camilleri Square, Nadur. The concert will take place on Tuesday, the 24th of June, starting at 9.00pm.
The event is being organised by the Mnarja Philharmonic Society with the collaboration of the Ministry for Gozo and the Nadur Local Council to mark the feast of St Peter and St Paul – patron saints of Nadur village in Gozo.
Over the last 22 years, the Mnarja band has been putting up this spectacular concert introducing new repertoire and music arrangements every year. The band said that “the genre was very innovative to Gozo enticing other local bands to follow suit.”
“Apart from the already vast repertoire of classical pieces that adorned the band’s music archive, it is now enriched with over 250 new music arrangements covering practically all soundtracks from musical theatre, soundtracks from blockbuster films as also pop and rock arrangements that were never performed in the Gozitan band music scenario.”
The Mnarja Band said that it is “also one of the most sought after bands in Gozo to perform nearly in every village in Gozo through its colourful concerts rather than just military marches.”
The band added that “this year’s concert again includes musical arrangements never performed on Gozo by local bands namely: Medleys: “TV Showcase,” “Highlights from Wicked” and Walt Disney’s hit “Frozen”, epic-films’ soundtracks in “The Best of Hans Zimmer”, “Adele in Concert”, the immortal “Howard Carpendale in Concert” and the pompous “March of the Olympians”. Finally but not least the concert will also include Selection from Verdi’s “La Traviata” to blend classical with modern/pop music.
As in previous years a comic/surprise piece will also feature to render the evening more entertaining to the public.
Mnarja Band will be under the direction of its Music Director Mro Joseph Grech M.Phil Music, B.A. (Hons) Music, F.L.C.M. and guest singers Christine Camilleri and Elaine Haber will complement the evening.
Big Band Adventures will be under the distinguished patronage of Mr Speaker, Dr Angelo Farrugia.
The general public is invited to attend and entrance is free of charge.
A reception will follow.
