This morning the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing Dr Justyne Caruana, visited those Fathers who are residing in the Male Geriatric Ward at the Gozo General Hospital.

She wished them all the best on their special day and presented them with gifts.

Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in Malta, as it is in many other European countries. It was celebrated for the first time in the United States in June 1910.

Dr. Caruana gave her best wishes to all those Fathers who live with their families, those who live alone in their own homes, as well as those who live in residential homes for the elderly around Malta and Gozo.

During her visit Dr. Caruana also sent best wishes to all Fathers who are inpatients in hospitals, where she said that on this special day they will be receiving many visits from their relatives.

Dr Caruana stated that a Father has a very important role in the family, especially in parenting, therefore those with elderly Fathers should show them love and respect during this delicate phase of their life.
