Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing, Justyne Caruna, today officially inaugurated the Medical Materials Management Unit at St Vincent de Paul Residence.
Justyne Caruana said that “the refurbishment work done in the Medical materials Management Unit (MMMU) had been completed in time and within budget, which shows the professional manner in which renovation work at St Vincent de Paul is being carried out.”
She continued by saying that this is just one of a number of projects that the Government has planned for this Residence.
The Parliamentary Secretary also mentioned that only a few months ago, the inventory system was being updated manually instead of with an IT system. She explained that without this system, this audit trail could not be done, which will be make it more cost effective.
“The MMMU is not just a new looking building, but is also a leap towards better quality service, good governance, and good administration to better utilise our resources, also eliminating waste and any form of abuse,” Justyne Caruana said.
Justyne Caruana stated that the Government is committed to paying particular attention to the elderly sector, especially to residential services.
She mentioned the launching of the Charter of Rights for Residents in Elderly Homes and the ongoing Public Consultation, which will lead to National Minimum Standards for Residences for the Elderly.
Justyne Caruana concluded that the Government is currently looking at preparing plans for refurbishing more wards, as well as an ongoing exercise to increase beds in Government residential homes.
