The 29th edition of the Gozo Observer has been published by the University of Malta – Gozo Campus and once again contains a number of interesting articles relating to Gozo.

Professor Arnold Cassola gives an account of a young Sicilian Patrician who attended the Sacred Heart Seminary in Gozo in 1890, while Anton F. Attard continues his article entitled ‘The Woman in Gozitan Folklore,’ whereby he gives the reader an idea of the customs, traditions and the way of life of Gozitan women of bygone years.

Father Geoffrey G. Attard gives us an enlightening tour of the history of the village and parish of Zebbug, Gozo. Father Geoffrey also offers an informative review of the book entitled ‘De Soldanis: an eighteenth century intellectual’ which is edited by Godwin Vella and Olvin Vella and features photographs by Daniel Cilia.

Professor Maurice Cauchi contributes an interesting article relating to surnames in Gozo and how they indicate demographic changes on the island, while Dr Mario Saliba gives an insight into the creation and management of artificial wrecks around the Gozitan coastline.

Marcelle Vella illustrates the importance of enhancing emotional literacy in schools through the subject of Personal and Social Development (PSD). Esther Galea reviews the book series ‘Maltese for Foreigners’ which has been published by Charles Daniel Saliba.

In the final article, Joseph Calleja, the Gozo Campus Administrator, gives a summary of the extra-curricular activites held at the Gozo Campus between July and December 2013.
