Nadur’s Mnarja Philharmonic Band performed the ‘Big Band Adventures’ Symphonic Concert in front of a packed audience on Tuesday evening, under the distinguished patronage of Mr Speaker, Dr Angelo Farrugia.
The concert was organised by the Mnarja Philharmonic Society with the collaboration of the Ministry for Gozo and the Nadur Local Council to mark the feast of St Peter and St Paul – patron saints of Nadur village in Gozo, being celebrated this week,
The musical arrangements included Medleys: “TV Showcase,” “Highlights from Wicked” and Walt Disney’s hit “Frozen,” epic-films’ soundtracks in “The Best of Hans Zimmer,” “Adele in Concert,” the immortal “Howard Carpendale in Concert” and the pompous “March of the Olympians,” as well as a selection from Verdi’s “La Traviata” and a little bit of light comedy to entertain the audience.
Mnarja Band was directed by Music Director Mro Joseph Grech M.Phil Music, B.A. (Hons) Music, F.L.C.M. and guest singers Christine Camilleri and Elaine Haber contributed to the enjoyable evening.

It would be nice if someone provided full video coverage of these celebrations for people who are not in Gozo right now.
It would be nicer if they didn’t have this and they should have what they used to have on Tuesday, beautiful bands marching and playing music through the streets of Nadur during this time of the evening. Alot of people don’t want to hear this kind of music during the week of a feast. I don’t understand how some bands play Abba and you hear hard rock music during the day and during the day the streets are filled with vendors which makes the feasts look like street fairs. Its sad
Eliza I have doubts whether you live in New York or somewhere else may be in a backwards country.
You said that here in Gozo a lot of people don’t want to hear this kind of music. Can you prove it ???
Below you can find some links about other similar activities performed here in Gozo.

Now, please tell us why you think this? You say that A lot of people don’t want to hear it? Yet they play to packed audiences. How do you know what a lot of people want or not? You are thousands of miles away. When was the last time you were here? And you say it’s sad, yet you want a video to watch it?
Well we, and a lot of other locals of Nadur really enjoyed it.
We will watch the marching bands on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Boring, boring and boring! Alot of people don’t want to sit outside during the feast and get bored! We used to have marching bands from Monday through Sunday. How do these music themes from Walt Disney and Highlights from Wicked relate to a religious feast? Why don’t you save this for another time of the year?
I wanted a video to watch the feast of Nadur because Nadur does a very poor job of showing the Nadur feast on video every year. All Nadurs videos are very short when they film the Nadur feast. I am referring to videos of the bands and morning bands, etc I’m not referring to the above band with the seated audience. All the other villages throughout Malta do a great job of video coverage of their feasts.
Another thing I would like to say is that all these bands are just copying someone else’s music. I would rather listen to the real band or singer
Look at the beautiful nadur feast on video called nadur feast 1967-1968. Everything was so simple, sophisticated and beautiful back then. Today what I’m saying is these bands playing those songs from Wicked and Walt Disney and that hard rock music you hear playing in the mornings don’t match with the feast.
Did it ever cross your mind that they played the music produced then (in your time here) and before, which is exactly what is being played now; music produced now and before. You just don’t seem to understand, most people like it. We are not all living in the memories of nearly 50 years ago; we live in the ‘here and now’. We have cars here too, not ponies and traps.
It seems that one person seems to know and be the authority on what everyone on Gozo wants, should enjoy and what should or should not happen here. All from the distance of several thousand miles too.
Yes Mick, seemingly the world, especially Gozo, revolves around one person. The band with the chance to play ‘new’ music, the young local singers given a chance to perform in front of a ‘large’ audience and the many people that packed the square enjoying the show do not count. They are dismissed with a condescending “boring” how arrogant!
I can’t understand all the silly comments by one particular person here. Surely it is up to the people in Nadur to decide what they do or don’t want during their feast.
Of course and especially as we live here. We do not live in the past and know what we like.
I’m sorry I guess I have gotton used to hearing the real singers here. Its not unusual when your walking through a park here when you hear a song being performed, the real singer is there. A few years ago, Davey Jones,God rest his soul. was giving a free performace. I also saw Diana ross and Lionel Richards for free. Its very unusual here when you hear a song played thats its sung by someone else, especially like the above link. Thats the first time, I heard Ricky Martins song sung by someone else. Here. when you hear the Beach Boys song, you know someone from the Beach Boys is performing. Yes. I find the above music boring and I don’t understand how this kind of music fits in with a feast. Lets us not forget what the meaning of the feast is all about and that Saint Paul was shipwricked on our island of Malta!!!
It would be so nice if someone would post videos of Nadur’s marching band for all Maltese abroad to watch. There are very few online
