The Gozo Action Group Foundation has issued a call for applications for funding Action 413.1: ‘Promotion of Gozo as a distinct Destination.’ as part of the Rural Development Programme for Malta 2007-2013 Axis 4 – ‘LEADER’ Programme – The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Co-financing rate: 80% European Union, 20% Government of Malta Europe Investing in Rural Areas
The GAGF said that the promotion of Gozo as a distinct destination was one of the most important topics mentioned during the consultation stage. The marketing campaign is aimed at stimulating tourism demand on the island and thus addresses sustainability of the tourism sector. The action is deemed of capital importance for the multiplier effect that this can generate on the island economy.
The purpose of the action is to provide assistance to the development and implementation of marketing initiatives focused on Gozo’s distinctiveness in six main areas which are:
1. Agriculture
2. Environment
3. Landscape
4. Culture
5. Heritage
6. Gastronomy
The action aims to generate further tourism demand in Gozo, especially in shoulder months. The strategic objective of the action is to develop Gozo distinctiveness and enhance synergies with tourism-related activities in order to promote growth and reduce seasonality in a sustainable manner.
The beneficiaries eligible for funding under Action 413.1 are private entities, tourism related entities (NGO’s) and public entities related to tourism operating within the territory of the Gozo Action Group Foundation.
The beneficiaries will be granted up to a maximum of 80% of the total eligible expenditure should the project proposal be selected. No project size capping is applied.
The sum of €240,000 is allocated to Action 413.1 This sum will be financed through the EAFRD and National Funds whilst the applicant will finance the remaining 20% together with the VAT component.
The eligibility start date of Action 413.1 is the 17th July 2014. The Gozo Action Group Foundation will accept applications under this Action as from the 17th July 2014. The deadline for submission of applications is noon, 26th August 2014.

The GAGF is requesting ALL interested applicants to set a meeting with GAGF staff, prior to the closing date of application to discuss any clarifications required.
