Next Tuesday the Leone Band will be repeating the 7th edition of Leone Goes Pop, this time in Gozo’s popular resort of Marsalforn.
This repeat performance will, as in previous years, raise funds for the Puttinu Cares Foundation, which the Leone Band has supported since its first repeat performance of the Leone Goes Pop concert in 2009.
The Band said that the 7th edition, performed for the first time in Victoria on 7th June, was a resounding success. Hosted by the comic duo Danusan, it featured Chris Grech, Raquela and soprano Claire Caruana with the Leone Band, in a number of sung and unsung numbers that evoked the celebratory spirit of the then-approaching World Cup finals.
This coming Tuesday, the 22nd of July, the band said that “the public is encouraged to fly and sport its favourite nation’s colours once more – even if England and Italy, for the majority of fans, have long settled back on their home turf.”
“With music from the repertoire of The Beatles, Mudugno, Santana, Bennato, Queen and Shakira – amongst others – the Leone Band pledges to get everyone in the mood for a good post-World Cup party… and who knows? Perhaps a little Brazilian samba, or Argentine tango may lure anyone who has celebrated Germany’s victory too!”
Conductor Colin Attard and the 90-piece band will give a repeat performance of Leone Goes Pop on Tuesday 22nd July, starting at 9pm.
Limited seating is free on a first-come-first-served basis. The public is cordially suggested to be in place at least 30 minutes in advance.
