Due to Enemalta’s power outage and some technical difficulties, Malta International Airport was forced to temporarily close all activity within the Aerodrome last night.
This was a safety precaution as the runway was closed to safeguard the wellbeing of all our passengers, MIA said.
The following incoming flights were diverted to Catania: Vueling flight VY 8744 from Barcelona, Norwegian flight DY 6530 from Copenhagen, Airmalta flight KM 4293 from Glasgow, and Ryanair flight FR 9874 from Bari.
Our operations at the airport have now resumed as normal. Passengers are advised to visit www.maltairport.com for updates on their flights.
MIA apologised for any inconvenience caused.
We had visitors arriving at the time, the first thing they said to say, you sure this is Malta and not Libya, still backwards when it comes to progress aren’t day, i have never been so embarrassed in my life since we retired here.
Sounds to me like you need to go back home mate and don’t you worry one little bit as I’m sure Malta will get on just fine without you!

It’s moaners like you that get my back up. Try working in Sierra Leone or Bosnia for a year apiece and you might realise how lucky you are. God, feather foots like you cheese me off. If you don’t like it go back to the ‘Utopia’ of the UK with it’s crime, diversity and endless other problems. You don’t deserve to be on such a wonderful archipelago.
