Turnover in selected services activities down 3.1% in Q4 of 2013

Provisional seasonally adjusted data indicate that in the fourth quarter of 2013, turnover in selected services activities decreased by 3.1 per cent. Over the corresponding quarter of 2012, working day adjusted services turnover went down by 2.0 per cent, the National Statistics Office said today.
Seasonally adjusted turnover in the fourth quarter of 2013 declined by 3.1 per cent on the previous quarter. Declines were registered in administrative and support services activities (-11.5 per cent), transportation and storage (-9.4 per cent), motor trade (-2.1 per cent), wholesale trade (-1.7 per cent) and retail trade (-0.5 per cent).
On the other hand, increases were registered in professional, scientific and technical activities (+3.6 per cent), accommodation and food services activities (+3.2 per cent) and information and communication (+0.5 per cent).
While seasonally adjusted employment and gross wages and salaries grew by 0.6 and 0.3 per cent respectively, hours worked decreased marginally by 0.1 per cent.
When compared with the corresponding quarter of 2012, working day adjusted turnover went down by 2.0 per cent. Turnover decreased in administrative and support services activities (-19.3 per cent), motor trade (-6.8 per cent) and wholesale trade (-2.3 per cent), while increases were registered in information and communication (+5.0 per cent), professional, scientific and technical activities (+4.8 per cent), accommodation and food services activities (+3.3 per cent) and retail trade (+0.9 per cent).
During the quarter under review, employment, gross wages and salaries, and hours worked increased by 2.6, 3.4 and 0.6 per cent respectively over the comparative quarter of 2012.
