The Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Dr Stefan Buontempo has called on Local Councils to prioritise the safety of residential streets within their localities

The matter was raised by the Parliamentary Secretary during meetings that have been taking place with the Councils over the past few months.

The Parliamentary Secretary said that therefore a communication is being sent to Local Councils that signs and road markings must comply with both national and international standards.

Dr Buontempo said that in particular it was noted that ‘sleeping policemen’ – speed bumps – should be painted so that they are clearly visible to all drivers, as well as providing the necessary warning signs.
