This coming Tuesday, the 23rd of September, the new €10 banknote in the Europa series will be introduced in circulation in all the Euro-zone countries, including Malta.
The method for checking the security features of the new banknote is the same as that for the old series; that is the “Feel-Look-Tilt” approach – feel the paper and the raised print; look at the watermark and at the security thread; and tilt the banknote to look at the hologram and the colour-shifting image.
It is important to keep in mind that the new €10 banknote in the Europa series will include a number of new security features. Among other features, the new banknote will include a series of short raised lines on the left and right edges of the banknote which are designed to give a better feel of the raised print, while the portrait of Europa will also be included in the watermark. This portrait will also be present on the hologram.
On the left lower corner of the new €10 banknote, there is going to be a colour-shifting image (the number 10) which, upon tilting, will give an effect of moving light upwards and downwards throughout this number. This image will also change colour from emerald green to deep blue.
