A reminder that Festubru 2014 Tradition – Food – Folklore opens today, organised by the Ghaqda Muzikali San Girgor of Kercem in collaboration with the Kercem Local Council.

This annual family festival takes place today and tomorrow Saturday, the 4 of October, in the most picturesque valley in the Maltese Islands, Lunzjata Valley, just on the borders of Victoria and Kercem.

A full programme of activities and attractions directly linked with tradition, is being presented by the Organising Committee.

This two-day activity will also include various attractions and exhibitions featuring farming tools and animals used by our forefathers. An interesting attraction will be the art of wool weaving. Local fresh products and preservatives will be available at the place. The fascinating Lunzjata Chapel will be open throughout the two days where mass will be celebrated.

This festival is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo. The general public will have the opportunity to appreciate Gozo in its natural state.

Friday, 3rd October

4.30 p.m. Mass at Lunzjata Chapel

6.00 p.m. The Art of Wool Weaving – Demonstration of the full process of wool weaving which starts from the very sheep shearing till the weaving of clothes and carpets as directed by Alda Bugeja – the show will be on during the two-day activity

8.00 p.m. Majjalata – Indulge yourself at the traditionally cooked suckling pig which is all prepared at Lunzjata Valley. Tickets at €12.00 per person.

Pre-booking is required on festubru@bandasangirgor.org Joseph Refalo animates the evening with traditional melodies played on the mandolin. (In case of bad weather the activity will still be held at St. Gregory Band Club, Pjazza Orvieto, Kercem)

Saturday, 4th October

10.00 a.m. Guided Tour at Lunzjata Valley – A detailed explanation of the history and natural elements which surround the mysterious and yet spectacular environment at the valley. (Starting point ‘Fuq l-Arkata’ – Triq Kercem) Bookings Free of Charge on festubru@bandasangirgor.org

4.30 p.m. Mass at Lunzjata Chapel

5.00 p.m. The Pressing of Olives and the production of Olive Oil

6.30 p.m. Traditional Wine Tavern and Local Food – Serving of local wine from the renowned Bacchus Winery and traditional food, fresh vegetables and fruit tables together with several other stands bearing local products.

Fjakkolata – The lighting up of traditional lights and candlelight around the valley

8.00 p.m. A full show on the main stage involving amongst others Ta’ Seguna Folk Group, Gozo Drum Tribe goes Electronic, Traditional Folk Dance and Songs by Astra Folk Group and Cini Brothers.
