The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) during a press conference this morning outlined pending issues being faced in the educational sector at the start of this scholastic year.

The Union said that these range from issues at State Schools such as class conditions and other lacking resources, the issue of children who are not capable of speaking Maltese or English, reforms including co-education and tablets, issues at Church schools, ITS and MCAST, on legal ramifications related to abuse, and on inclusion.

The Union also outlined electoral promises on which no discussions are being held, including sabbatical leave, the recognition of experience issue, and the maternity leave matter mentioned many times in the past.

The MUT President Mr. Kevin Bonello stated that, “many of the issues could have been avoided with better planning while others have been concerns for many years with proposals from the Union to solve them unheeded. One hopes that cases similar to the Skola Sajf issue, where the MUT was the first to flag the issues to no avail, do not repeat themselves.”
