“The first schemes in favour of further employability are expected to be launched in the coming weeks with the aim of ensuring a smooth transition between the previous and future programming period.”

This was stated by the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for EU Funds Dr Ian Borg who attended the Informal Meeting of Ministers responsible for Cohesion Policy that was held in Milan (Italy) today.

The Meeting was presided by Mr. Graziano Delrio -State Secretary to Italy’ s Presidency of the Council of Ministers – and addressed by Commissioner Johannes Hahn responsible for Regional Policy and Mr Younous Omarjee – Vice Chair of the European Parliament’ s Committee on Regional Development.

The purpose of this high level meeting was to discuss the link between Cohesion Policy and Economic Governance and how the two policies could complement each other with the aim of delivering on jobs and growth.

During the meeting, Commissioner Johannes Hahn also provided an overview of the state of play vis-à-vis the Partnership Agreements and explained that the remaining Partnership Agreements would be concluded very shortly.

In his intervention, Dr Borg stated that the link between Cohesion Policy and Economic Governance could contribute towards strengthening the socio-economic environment as well as making the business environment more conducive towards private investment.

He emphasised that it was important that a strong message of confidence was sent out by the European Union to economic operators, especially small and medium sized enterprises, with the aim of creating a business environment that would enable businesses and economic operators in the system to prosper and to grow within a financially stable environment.

Concerning the EU Funds for 2014-2020, Government is focusing its efforts on finalising the programming and prioritisation phase in order to focus efforts on the implementation phase.
