Earlier today the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, closed the “The Rotary Conference 2014,” with “Learning” as the theme for this year, discussions covered in detail career needs of the young in Gozo.

Rotary Club Gozo announced the setting up of a Vocational Fund to support the young of Gozo in their career aspirations.

The Ministry of Gozo and The Gozo Business Chamber are backing this initiative, which is intended to be a long-term project.

Dr Refalo announced that the Ministry for Gozo will be helping Rotary Club Gozo to achieve its objective.

Rotary’s President, Guy Kurkjian, underlined the current need, “young people all need finance to progress their studies towards a career: for materials, tools, books, private tuition or help to study abroad. Sometimes the most talented individuals come from the poorest of backgrounds and they, in particular, need assistance. But it is not just for them. All Gozitan students will be judged on their merits.”

The Vocational Fund is financed from voluntary contributions and monies raised by Rotary Club Gozo through charitable events. Talks are on with other sources to provide a matching grant to that raised by Rotary Club Gozo.

Also present for the Conference were prominent local businessmen and other senior figures from Government, MCAST, ETC, University of Malta, Local Banks, Unions and NGOs.

Rotary is an international organisation working within, and for, the community. It has been established on Gozo for 7 years and, in that time, it has assisted many good causes.
