€270,000 in EU funds allocated for a digital Gozo promotional campaignThe Parliamentary Secretariat for European Funds has announced that around €270,000 of EU Funds under the the European Regional Development Fund (Priority Axis – Promoting Sustainable Tourism) will be used for a digital promotion campaign for Gozo

Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds Dr Ian Borg said the aim of this promotional campaign is to put Gozo on a greater competitive level in the increasingly influential e-marketing sector of on-line interactivity, predominantly in the field of social media.

This will be achieved through the redesigning of the VisitGozo web portal. This, it is being envisaged, will increase visual impact and visitor interactivity and retention with the aim of increasing interest in Gozo as a travel destination.

Additionally, a recent study has also showed that 30% of visitors to the island quote the internet as their source of travel information, compared to 4% of magazines and newspapers, hence the power of online tools to promote the destination.

Whilst taking account of all this, Dr. Borg explained that this was one of the main motivators for the Ministry of Gozo to pursue such a project.
