Following the incident of the baby striped dolphin stranding at Bugibba Perched Beach last Saturday, The Malta Environment and Planning Authority, Veterinary Surgeon Dr Anthony A Gruppetta and Nature Trust (Malta), in a joint statement this morning, said that they would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to all parties and individuals concerned and who in some way or other helped out during the incident.

Thanks are due to the Malta National Aquarium and the St Pauls Bay Police during the actual rescue at the beach. A special thanks also goes to the Animal Welfare Department for the assistance provided, the statement said.

Moreover thanks goes to the Mediterraneo Veterinarians for their support, The Malta Aquaculture Research Centre staff, Dr A Vella from the University of Malta, Mepa staff, Volunteers of the Wildlife Rescue Team of Nature Trust and |Veterinarian Dr D Brincat from the St Simon Vet clinic.

The statement concluded by saying that “the cooperation between all bodies and individuals was commendable and all worked together with one object that of doing everything possible to try and save the animal.”
