This morning a Heart CT Scan service was introduced in the Gozo General Hospital. It follows on from the introduction of the same service at the Mater Dei Hospital in Malta, the Ministry of Health said.

This type of test involves injecting a contrast colour into a vein to take photographs of the coronary arteries.

This important service will increase the number of cardiac tests that can now be carried out at the Gozo General Hospital, it will also reduce the suffering of patients, who will now be able to undergo the test in Gozo rather than travel to Malta, as well as helping to reduce the waiting time for this procedure at Mater Dei., the Ministry said.

This service has been made available by means of collaboration between the Departments of Cardiology and Radiology at Mater Dei and the Management of Gozo General Hospital, “with the aim of further improving the health services offered in Gozo.”
