A 22-year-old male from Swieqi lost his life following a traffic accident which took place in Triq ir-Rabat, Nadur, Gozo, at about 3.45am this morning.
The Police said that the young man was a passenger, together with 3 others in a Peugeot 106, which was being driven by a male also aged 22 years, who lives in San Gwann.
They were taken to the Gozo General Hospital for medical treatment. One of the passengers has been certified as suffering from grievous injuries whilst the other two and the driver were not injured.
Duty Magistrate Dr J Vella Cuschieri LL.D was informed about the case whereby she appointed several experts to assist her in the Inquiry.and Police investigations are still ongoing.
A sad and needless loss of life for whatever reason. I understand that the young man killed was ejected from the vehicle when it crashed so most probably not wearing a seat belt. Unfortunately I am not surprised as I constantly observe blatant disregard for basic safety of passengers here. Even children standing in the front of cars and on seats also children or dogs on driver’s laps. It seems more usual than not to ignore basic life saving precautions.
