Zminijietna – Voice of the Left, in a statement today, said that it supports the public transport reform package that is coming into force.
Zminijietna added that it “augurs that these reforms will lead to more efficiency, affordability, improved routes and better accessibility.”
“Regarding the environment, Zminijietna considers positive the introduction of VI vehicles as this is in parallel with EU regulations.”
Zminijietna said that “with regards to ticketing, Zminijietna is highly concerned with the removal of the daily/weekly ticket for adults. This new measure can lead to increased costs, for example for workers with irregular employment, workers who use public transport more than two rides a day, irregular users, and families with children over 12 years old.”
On the other hand, Zminijietna said, it supports the introduction of the card system as this will lead to more efficiency as waiting time on bus stops will be reduced. “It is also positive, the fact, that the new company will honour the present collective agreement.”

Are there no longer daily or weekly tickets available? As a regular visitor from UK this makes a very big difference. Could mean to hire a car would be cheaper adding to traffic and pollution.
How on earth can you compare the cost of a hire car more favourably than the cost of any bus tickets?
Note a 30 day ticket costs €26, even if half used still far far cheaper than a hire car.
Very big difference? What a few Euro’s? Come off it.
Slow down Mick! At the time of posting I was not aware of a 30 day ticket. I read that were no day or week tickets which means as a visitor taking 4 or 5 trips a day would become costly when on a budget. Booked in UK I can hire a small car for £8 (€10 ish) a day plus fuel and have had great deals through Mayjo when a car was needed. Why so cross about a friendly comment??
You will not get a car of any size for 10 euro’s in the summer! I am a resident and hire a car approximately every 3 weeks for 3 or 4 days and don’t get that rate in the summer.
Arranged in UK, quote for April & May. Why so much negativity here?
It is true one can hire a car at about that price but the excess is usually in the order of £1500. (Avis). One can insure against that but it raises the cost. No negativity here, we live here! 🙂
