Augustinians, Franciscan Minor Conventuals & the Capuchins - LectureWirt Ghawdex has organised its next public lecture, which is entitled “The Friaries & Churches of Augustinians, The Franciscan Minor Conventuals & The Capuchins in Rabat, Gozo – Their Artistic Value.”

Since their formation, the Augustinians, the Franciscan Minor Conventuals and the Capuchins have always been affluent sources of history, architecture and art. Deeply concerned with worship and piety, the Maltese were eager in accepting among them these institutions which in return offered religious prosperity and cultural enhancement.

The friars always chose the best painter or sculptor available on the Maltese artistic scene and this shows how keen and selective the friars were in embellishing their sites. The result is what we have today – inspiring historic and artistic gems

This lecture, to be delivered in English by Paul Cassar, was postponed from last November. The lecture will be focusing on an appreciation of some of the major works of art found in these convents.

It is taking place next Friday, the 6th of February, at Santa Cecilia Chapel, Ghajnsielem and begins at 6.30pm.

Seat reservations can be requested on info@wirtghawdex.org.
