As in previous years, the Emergency Response Rescue Corps in Gozo, was called upon to offer ambulance and first aid coverage at Carnival activities held in various locations in Gozo, including the Nadur Spontaneous Carnival.
The Nadur Spontaneous Carnival is spread over five days and draws large crowds, including Maltese and foreigners. Saturday traditionally attracts the most crowds to the event, and it’s also the day in which the majority of first aid interventions are reported.
For this event, the Emergency Response Rescue Corps volunteers set up a clinic in Nadur Square near the Police Station.
The ERRC said that the majority of the casualties were, as in previous year, treated for excessive consumption of alcohol. As a result of this, some of them also suffered from various forms of injuries, such as head or other injuries.
Emergency Response Rescue Corps volunteers assisted a total of 26 persons over five days. One of the casualties treated was a two-year-old child suffering form a head injury. Some of the casualties were transported to the Gozo General Hospital for further treatment.
Whilst advising the general public to be more cautious in such events, the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps said that it would like to thank the Nadur Local Council, Malta Police and the staff of the Emergency Department of the Gozo General Hospital for their support.

The guys and girls at ERRC are great and deserve our appreciation and support. I had occasion to call on them twice recently (once on Christmas Day!). They came without hesitation and I cannot possibly thank them enough for their kindness, concern and consideration. Sadly my Partner who needed their help passed away this last week but I shall be forever in their debt.
