A purchase contract has been signed on a property to be used in Gozo as a residence for people with disabilities, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability Dr Justyne Caruana, announced today.

“This has taken place following the issue of an Expression of Interest for the Supply of Residential Homes and Services for the Disabled in Gozo,” Dr Caruana said.

She added that the house identified is situated in Victoria and will host about ten residents. Work on this residence will begin immediately and is expected to be completed by the end of October, so that they can begin to welcome the first residents by the end of this year.

The Parliamentary Secretary explained how the Government is exploring the possibilities that parts of the property may also be used to provide other services for people with disabilities.

She mentioned that work is underway to open the first lifelong learning hub for disabled persons, located in Ghajnsielem, with the required works on the site expected to get underway soon.
