Women should not be treated as if they were children, says Zminijietna"Women should not be treated as if they were children," Zminijietna – Voice of the Left said in a statement today, adding that it is "highly disappointed with the decision taken by the joint committee on social policy, health and family affairs not to allow the morning after pill to be available over the counter."

The Leftist organisation went on to say that "Parliamentary group recommendation that the morning-after pill should require a doctor's prescription when sold to women is more a paternalistic approach rather than a health issue."

It pointed out that "in various countries, such as Turkey and all EU countries, except Hungary, the emergency contraception is available over the counter. Others, such as Argentina offers it for free under the public healthcare service system."

Zminijietna s Voice of the Left stated that it supports the stand taken by Gender Equality Malta to hold a protest, next Sunday, urging MPs to rethink their position. "Zminijietna will be joining forces."
