On Saturday the Winter Wallop game which had previously been postponed twice, between the Melita Bees and the Krishna Kobras, finally was played. The Kobras needing a victory to make it into the Grand Final, entered the game without their strike bowler/batsman Bikram Arora, opening batsman Malcolm Crabbe and all rounder Justin Farrin -Thorne.

The Kobras won the toss and batted first. Unfortunately the Kobras were bowled out for 94 runs and only lasted eighteen overs. Mike Caruana was the highest scorer with forty five runs (his highest score in the tournament) which included six fours. Extras were next highest with thirty, had the Bees been more accurate with their bowling the game would have finished much earlier.

Tony Slater bowling his slow deliveries managed to take two wickets, including the important wicket of Nowell Khosla who tried to hit the ball down the grounds, only managing to slice the ball into the hands of Garrett Kampff at mid off. Sanjay Patel, Ian Pendelbury and Cal Madden all took a wicket each. Daniel Galea bowled well for his two overs.

The Bees made the required runs in fifteen overs. It was not a complete walk in the park, from two for 87 runs they managed to lose four wickets before the victory. Earlier Matt McKeogh set up the win with a flawless batting style, making thirty four runs from thirty balls and then having to retire.

Joy Ghoseroy also bated well for his nineteen runs ans new boy Cal Madden chipped in with fifteen. Amy Caruana impressed taking two wickets, one of the great Tm Wheeler who holed out to cover and the other of Madden who tried to hit the ball out of the ground, missing and watching the ball hit his stumps. Mike Caruana took two wickets while Nowell Khosla and John Grima (who took off his keeping gloves) took a wicket each. Grima also bowled the only maiden of the game.

The Marsa Magpies were content with the result as now they will be facing the Bees in the final on March the 14th.

This coming weekend the first touring team arrives, Beckenham CC, from England and will be playing a two game series against Marsa CC, starting on Friday.

On Saturday the Sunoco Cricket academy/nursery will be from 9:00 till 10:30am.
