On the occasion of Notte Bianca 2010, the City of Utrecht and Heritage Malta’s National Museum of Fine Arts will be presenting a series of concerts by the famous Holland Baroque Society. This group of young, professional musicians will integrate art forms to give you a true Baroque experience within the setting of Malta’s national collection.
Holland Baroque Society gathers together the youngest generation of Baroque musicians. This musical ensemble includes four central players and couples innovative programming with a unique approach to performance. The ensemble performs without a permanent musical director, in order to keep their ears fresh, and enrich and intensify their playing style. In the last few years the orchestra has worked with leading musicians such as Matthew Halls, Stephen Stubbs, Miloš Valent, Stefano Montanari, Paolo Pandolfo, Veronika Skuplik and with the actress Cox Habbema. The ensemble has also been invited by renowned musical festivals both in Holland and abroad.
The ensemble specializes in “Kids Only” educational projects, which bring thousands of children and young people into contact with baroque music every year. These concerts usually feature short pieces of music. In between, one of the musicians will discuss the musical instruments in use, explain the story behind the music and the composition itself. This is a very informal session which leaves children at ease to ask questions and interact freely with performing musicians.
The ensemble will be holding their ‘kids only’ concert at the National Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday, the 25th of September at 11.00am. Entrance to the museum will be at half price for all visitors between 10.30 am and 11.30 am. Four half hour concerts including works by Uccelini, Monteverdi, Falconieri, Caccini and others will be held at the Museum’s Baroque Halls in the evening.
This project was made possible thanks to the Malta Arts Fund and Notte Bianca 2010. It is one of a number of cultural collaboration initiatives promoted by the City of Utrecht; candidate to become Cultural Capital of Culture 2018 together with Malta.
