The finishing touches are being made to the new belvedere in Hamri Street Ghajnsielem, ready for the inauguration ceremony which is taking place this Sunday, the 22nd of March.
This long-awaited project, funded by the Ghajnsielem Local Council, will offer those who take time to relax there, stunning views from two levels, of Mgarr Harbour, Lourdes Chapel and the channel.
Each level offers a number of seating areas and a flower garden. It is expected to be a popular destination for both the local residents and tourists.
The project was funded from the Urban Improvement Fund (UIF) of MEPA. The Council said that these funds were originally for the main square embellishment project, “however since no agreement was reached with the Church authorities, they were invested in belvedere project rather than the funds being lost altogether.
The official programme of the inauguration ceremony is as follows:
11.45am – St Joseph Band departs from Band club to Apparition Square and Hamri Street
12.00pm – Balloon modelling on the belvedere site
12.45pm – Official inauguration by the Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat.
as a british ex – pat living on gozo ,i think that a wonderful job has been done with the belvedere .we have used this spot now for picnics because of the wonderful view ,not to mention the peacefl ambience.much thought and effort has gone into this site and the persons responsible should be commended.thank you .
