Last Friday, Physicist and Astronomer Dr Michael Nolle, provided students at Gozo College Sannat Primary with a unique learning experience on that day’s solar eclipse, and a chance to become ‘Cosmic Kids!’

After a brief introduction on the workings of a solar and lunar eclipse Dr Nolle invited students and teachers to experience this event using special glasses, welding masks and a pinhole projector. An amazing experience which they all enjoyed.

Dr Nolle also took this opportunity to share with students how his passion for physics and astronomy began. He referred back to the days when he himself was a young schoolboy and how the only lesson he remembers was when his teacher showed his class a solar eclipse through a blackened piece of glass.

He added that he was so marvelled by the sight that he sneaked back in line to have the opportunity to experience the sight twice.
