A group of 23 students from the Danish island Bornholm are this week on a visit to Malta and Gozo. The students are from the 6th form college on Campus Bornholm with main subjects in English, Social Science and Mathematics. The group is accompanied by senior teachers Asbjorn Christoffersen and Mikkel Toudal.

The aim of the week long educational visit is to study Malta and Gozo, and conduct a comparative analysis of the two islands as well as comparisons of Denmark and Malta.

During the week the group will learn about the current situation on the Maltese Islands as well as get a taste of their rich history. They have had a one-day visit dedicated to Gozo.

During a meeting with the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, they had the opportunity to discuss economic and social comparisons with Bornholm. The students also attended lectures by Prof G. Baldacchino and Dr Rose Marie Azzopardi, and visited historical places, such as the Cittadella and Ggantija Temples. The visit to the temples was sponsored by the Ministry for Gozo.

Bornholm is an island in the Baltic Sea, almost double the size of Malta but with only just under 40,000 inhabitants, thus having some of the issues surrounding small economies such as Gozo.

This visit was made possible through the cooperation of Dr Rose Marie Azzopardi and CRT (Center for Regional and Tourism Research) in Bornholm.
