Kercem botanical garden inaugurated by the Minister for Gozo

The Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo has inaugurated the botanical garden project, completed by the Kercem Local Council and planned as a family garden. The project was co-financed from European funds and cost over €300,000.

The botanical garden is set in a rustically landscaped area of Kercem. The Council said that the aim of the project is to promote the rural heritage of the Maltese Islands, as well as blend in with the natural rural landscape that surrounds it. “This initiative will also help the Council to improve the quality of life of residents and visitors as a place for family recreation,” it said.Kercem botanical garden inaugurated by the Minister for GozoThe Minister for Gozo reiterated that such projects are in line with the Government’s political agenda for Gozo, to encourage the development of the Gozo tourism product, as a distinct destination from that of Malta.

Dr Refalo said that through various diverse projects implemented by the Government, Local Councils and non-governmental organisations, more wealth is being generated for Gozo, to by enjoyed by Gozitans, as well as the tourists who visit the island throughout the year.

The Minister congratulated the Council on this initiative, while reiterating that Gozo can develop and improve its product, by working in all locations through the full collaboration with local councils.
