The Finance Minister Prof. Edward Scicluna, has launched the process of public consultation in preparation for the 2016 budget, which this year will take place in October.

The theme chosen for this Pre-Budget Document is ‘Delivering Our Vision.’

“The coming Budget will show the people of Malta the Government’s vision for the future,” the Finance Minister said.

Prof.. Scicluna said that the Government does not consider the budget as a mere accounting exercise, but an economic and social one which the Government plans to work and its objectives are to incentivize the economy so that it continues to grow.

He argued that the Government will remain committed to reducing the debt and deficit. The next year will see the deficit being reduced to € 90 million, he said.

This vision is laid out and explained in the recently-published Pre-Budget Document (read the entire document here or a shorter presentation here), which represents the basis for a period of consultation – with social partners, civil society, stakeholders, investors, employers and, most importantly, the public – which has been launched in the run up to the Budget 2016.

As part of the Pre-Budget consultation process, two public meetings will be held with the aim of listening to the general public’s expectations with regard to the Budget 2016. In Gozo, it will taking place on Friday, the 17th of September, starting at 7.30pm. The venue is still to be announced.
