The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, under its Foreign travel advice section on safety and security, is warning British travellers to be “vigilant in rural area and nature spots” during the spring hunting season.
It says, “The Maltese spring hunting season runs from 14 to 30 April. Hunting areas are rarely marked and can overlap with camping areas, country walkways and other public areas.
Hunting with firearms is common and is permitted from 2 hours before sunrise until 2 hours after sunset. Be vigilant if you visit rural areas and nature spots.”

It would be helpful if the ‘hunters’ would be vigilant.
The British ‘Empire’ has long since had a great fall.
However, this is still worse and it hits the sheer bottom.
I hardly had any esteem for the British Foreign policy, but this makes me lose all.
PUPPETS ON A STRING.
Whatever you may think about UK foreign policy or recommendations and warnings from the British FCO, these are the tourists you expect to spend money here.
With people like you, openly showing that the archaic maltese way of life is more important than being an integrated part of a modern and civilized Europe, this will in disgust turn their backs against Malta.
Dear Mr Nordstroem,
Honestly, I was going to ignore all comments but I felt yours demanded a call to order.
I never said anything about “the archaic Maltese way of life” as you deemed to call it. To call it that is your privilege, mine was totally different. Neither do I want to go into.any confrontation or comparison of who is “archaic” or not. We will just let everybody draw their own conclusions.
I just condemned (and still do) the British Foreign Office for issuing such a statement. My goodness, it sounded like a warning against visiting Yemen or Somalia. People who visit Malta know well enough the opposite of any such statement, as none has ever suffered any consequences from this activity.
Finally, it may be pertinent to note that this ended as a pique between two blocks and unfortunately some are turning to dirty tactics. The BFO is no exception.
Honesty still remains the best policy though, unfortunately, it seems to be getting rarer and rarer.
Regards
Taghmilx hsara lit-turizmu Mr Cachia !!
This advice by the British FCO is not new, it has appeared for many years now and by no stretch of the imagination can it be taken as any form of criticism. It is common sense advice which should be taken by everyone, whether a local or a visitor.
Advice from the UK to UK citizens is really no one else’s business than the UK and it’s intended recipients. To fail to issue such advice would be to fail in its duty. And as we know, has been doing so for years. It has absolutely nothing to do with previous colonisation so any comment referring or alluding to such is, quite frankly, irrelevant rubbish.
