A group of students from James Madison University have been on a study tour of Malta since the 13th of May, and last week it included one day in Gozo, where they were able to learn about sustainable farming practices on the island. The group were hosted by some of the officials from ecoGozo.
These students are currently studying about the Psychology of Sustainability and also the Human Connection to Nature.
As part of their day’s programme, there was a brief lecture explaining the scope and purpose of ecoGozo. The visiting students were also given an overview of the projects undertaken by the directorate.
A tour round the Government Experimental Farm in Xewkija followed the lecture. All students gave a positive feedback on the work carried out at the farm.
Following the farm visit, the group moved on to the Ta’ Mena Estate, where they were able to enjoy and learn about the local food, as well as take part in wine tasting. The students then went on a tour around the estate.
The students will be back on Gozo again next Saturday, when they have a day of hiking, swimming and exploring the coastline of the island.
They leave the Maltese islands on Monday, the 1st of June, when they depart to continue their study tour, this time on Sicily.
James Madison University was founded in 1908 and is located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It is a public institution offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs. JMU has been a coeducational institution since 1966.
