Latest results from the Greek referendum show that voters have rejected the terms of the international bailout offer.

The Greek Interior Ministry has published the latest figures which show that 61% of those whose ballots were counted voted ‘No’ with 39% voting ‘Yes.’ Two thirds of the ballots have been counted so far.

The Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, in a statement this evening, gave its reaction to the referendum result, saying that “today’s unequivocal vote by the Greek people cannot be taken lightly since it carries consequences not only for Greece, but also for the people in creditor countries and for the whole European project.”

“The Greek Government has sought to protect its people’s interest using the method it deemed best,” the Prime Minister said.

“People in creditor countries now expect their representatives to protect their interest and the European interest too,” the statement concluded.
