Turnover in selected services activities up by 4.5% on last yearIn the first quarter, working-day adjusted turnover in selected services activities increased by 4.5 per cent over the corresponding period of 2014. Provisional seasonally adjusted services turnover decreased by 2.6 per cent, the National Statistics Office said today.

When compared to the first quarter of 2014, working-day adjusted turnover went up by 4.5 per cent. Turnover increased in motor trade (18.3 per cent), real estate activities (16.4 per cent), professional, scientific and technical activities (12.2 per cent), retail trade (10.9), accommodation and food service activities (9.4 per cent), administrative and support services activities (5.4 per cent) and transportation and storage (0.5 per cent).However, decreases were registered in information and communication (3.8 per cent) and wholesale trade (1.2 per cent).

Employment, gross wages and salaries, and hours worked, increased by 1.4, 5.4 and 2.8 per cent respectively over the comparative quarter of 2014.

When compared to the previous quarter, seasonally adjusted turnover in the first quarter of 2015 decreased by 2.6 per cent.

Decreases were registered in real estate activities (11.3 per cent), wholesale trade (7.2 per cent), transportation and storage (4.6 per cent), information and communication (1.4 per cent), professional, scientific and technical activities (1.2 per cent) and accommodation and food service activities (1.0 per cent).

On the other hand, increases were registered in motor trade (7.9 per cent), administrative and support services activities (7.7 per cent) and retail trade (2.4 per cent).

Seasonally adjusted employment and gross wages and salaries increased by 0.2 and 0.4 per cent respectively while hours worked decreased by 0.2 per cent over the previous quarter.
