The Aurora Youth Movement within the Leone Philharmonic Society recently organised the seminar: ‘Youths, the heart of Gozitan Musical Societies,’ at the Leone Band Club in Victoria, during which it launched a regional campaign for increased youth participation in musical clubs and similar festa-oriented organisations.

The launch of the initiative brought together various organisations emanating from different villages. In itself, this was already a first for Gozo, in that similar organisations from different village-feasts, joined forces and engaged in dialogue.The seminar discussed the themes of social inclusion, women’s participation, skill-building for youths and the participation of Gozitan workers and students, who reside for the most part of the week in Malta.

It was addressed by Thomas Bajada, Aurora Youth Movement President, Chris Schembri Baldacchino, coordinator of the nationwide study “Qalb Zaghzugha, Festi Inklussivi,’ from the King George V Band (St Mary’s Society) of Mqabba, who presented the study at the beginning of the seminar, Dr Andrew Azzopardi, editor of the publication ‘Young People and the Festa in Malta,’ as well as Dr Michael Caruana, Leone Philharmonic Society President.

The Aurora Youth Movement thanked all the participants who attended and contributed with their experiences and dedication.

The Movement said that, “this is just the start of an – as yet – inexistent region-wide dialogue, which however, once rooted, can be of utmost benefit to a passion shared by many young people – the Maltese festa in Gozo.”
