During the second quarter of this year, the stock of licensed motor vehicles increased by 765 over the previous quarter to 440,163, with 74.4% being passenger cars, the National Statistics Office said today.

Average newly licensed motor vehicles per day in Malta and Gozo amounted to 63. The NSO said that newly licensed motor vehicles put on the road during the period under review amounted to 5,726.

The majority of newly licensed motor vehicles, 3,836 or 67.0% of the total, were passenger cars, followed by motorcycles/E-bikes/PA-bikes with 1,076 or 18.8%.

Petrol-powered engines accounted for 58.5% of the total, followed by diesel-powered engines (35.5%), and electric and plug-in hybrid engines (3.4%).

Compared to the first quarter of this year, the NSO said that increases of 22.2%, 8.0% and 5.8% were registered in plug-in hybrid (diesel-electric), mild hybrid (diesel-electric) and mild hybrid (petrol-electric) motor vehicles respectively.
