The Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing has announced that ti will be organising a series of training courses for informal carers of people suffering from dementia.

Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana, said that these courses for informal carers, who often are relatives, are part of a Dementia Awareness Campaign which was launched recently and will start on a regional basis this month.

Sessions will include training on various aspects of dementia, as well as explaining about the condition itself, activities for people with dementia, and communicating with people suffering from the condition, information and services available to the public.

Dr Caruana thanked those who will be involved in conducting the sessions, particularly the Malta Dementia Society. She said the training would be conducted in the communities by experts in this field during September and October.

The course for informal carers in Gozo will take place on Friday, the 11th of September, at the Gozo College Boys’ Secondary School, Victoria.
