On Friday the 18th of February 2011, a ceremony was held to present the ‘Gieh l-Artiggjanat Malti’ awards to those institutions, businesses and individuals who promoted Maltese crafts.
This award was organised for the first time in 2010 by the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Investment.
The Xaghra Local Council submitted its application in October 2010 and has been awarded 2nd place.
During the past years, the Council said it has contributed to the promotion of Maltese crafts by organising several courses in lace making etc.
Moreover, during this current legislature, the Council said it organised for the first time in the history of Gozo, the Figs’ Festival with the aim of promoting figs as one of our typical products.
The Council said that this award is a sign of appreciation to the work done by the Xaghra Local Council for the benefit of their residents and the locality in general.
The Council added that it believes that this public appreciation will motivate it to continue its work in the future.
