Today is the first day back to school for more than 31 thousand children after the long summer holidays.

The Ministry of Education said in a statement today that €43 million has been invested on 28 projects of maintenance and improvement in schools across Gozo and Malta.

New centres are also opening on the islands providing lessons for some 2,000 children who do not know Maltese or English.

Teachers, LSAs and Kindergarten Assistants will all be getting new laptops during the year, the Ministry said.

“Vocational subjects at SEC ‘O’ level will also be offered in secondary schools and more physical education teachers have been employed.” The Ministry added that the programme in this subject has been improved, which will also included the monitoring of children’s Body Mass Index.
