Mgr Carmelo Mercieca awarded Premju Anzjanità Attiva 2015

Mgr Carmelo Mercieca was awarded the prestigious Premju Anzjanità Attiva 2015 during a ceremony held on Saturday evening, by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana.

This national award was presented to him for his continued valuable in the Gozo community Gozo especially in Xewija, where he had been archpriest since 1972 until this year.

Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana explained explained one of the objectives of the Secretariat is working for a more inclusive society, where elderly persons and their families have access to more inclusive communities and encourage independent living.

The aim of this award is to celebrate the milestones of these individuals and organisation that support the concept of Active Ageing and also the rights of Elderly Persons.

Justyne Caruana said that there were 22 nominees for this award and appealed to the elderly to follow their example and continue to be more active in society. She congratulated Mgr Carmelo Mercieca, on winning the award this year

This event was held under the patronage of the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. also present for the event was the Robert Cutajar Opposition spokesman for the Family, Protection of Children, Elderly and Disabled.
