Annual rate of inflation as measured by the RPI increased to 1.32% from 0.14%In September, the annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index stood at 1.32 per cent. A year earlier the annual rate was 0.14 per cent, the National Statistics Office said today.

The main upward impacts on annual inflation were recorded in the Food Index (0.72 percentage points), the Household Equipment and House Maintenance Costs Index (0.28 percentage points) and the Recreation and Culture Index (0.26 percentage points). This was mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, furniture and tuition fees respectively.

The largest downward impacts were brought about by the Transport and Communication Index (0.44 percentage points), the Clothing and Footwear Index (0.13 percentage points) and the Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels Index (0.05 percentage points). This was mainly due to a reduction in the prices of fuel, garments and gas.

The twelve-month moving average rate was 0.93 per cent.
