‘Art Camp Malta’ is an initiative organised by the Office of the Permanent Delegation of Malta to UNESCO through the Centre of Education, Science and Culture, which got underway in Malta on Monday at the Verdala Palace.

This Saturday it transfers to Gozo, when Art Camp Malta activities will be taking place at the Villa Rundle in Victoria. Several artists from around the Mediterranean will be working together. The public is invited to attend and be part of this international dialogue towards peace, starting this Saturday, the 30th of October, until Tuesday, the 3rd of November, between 10am and 4.00pm.

The Gozo LEAP Centre said that as art is one of the answers to social inclusion – on both local and international levels – it is actively helping out and collaborating in the Art Camp Malta 2015 event..

One of the most important challenges for UNESCO is reinforcing the role of culture as an essential tool in sustainable development and promotion of peace. These goals are also embedded in the Millenium Development Goals post-2015. UNESCO is engaged in mobilising agents from different fields and regions in order in order to promote dialogue and understanding between artists.

Through the Art Camp project, Malta, a geographically small state located at the crossroads of many cultures, wishes to lend its support to the promotion of peaceful dialogue between artists from all over the world.

To this end, Art Camp Malta brings together around 14 artists from the Mediterranean Region and follows a similar initiative organised every two years in Andorra. This project, launched in 2008, is currently framed in the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022), promoted by UNESCO.

The project is held thanks to collaborations of both public and private institutions. It is a cross-cultural meeting where artistic expression is a common and universal language. Artists’ work gets an extra value since it is the result of living together with other peers and sharing their cultures within a wide range of activities and experiences.

Since 2012, HE Madame Hedva Ser, UNESCO’s Ambassador Artist for Peace, has been the Patron of the project.
