A Biblical Garden has been inaugurated today, in collaboration with the Europe Direct Information Centre Gozo and the European Information Office Malta and Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary, as part of a project co-funded by the European Union.

Forty two, carob, pomegranate and fig trees were planted in the area of the 4th Station of the Way of the Cross, trees which are mentioned in the Bible.

The rector of Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary, Reverend Gerard Buhagiar, spoke about the project plan which he has for the area of Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary and the surrounding area. This Biblical garden can be enjoyed by people who can stay in silence to reflect and pray in the midst of nature.

Gozo College Xaghra Primary was invited to participate in this event. Students sang and read poems and assisted in the planting of the trees.

Mr Joseph G Grech (CEO Gozo Business Chamber), Dr Peter Agius (Head of European Parliament Office Malta), Mr Victor Galea (Gozo College Principal), Mr Anthony Zammit (Director Eco Gozo) and Rev. Gerard Buhagiar (Rector Ta Pinu Sanctuary) were all present for this event and addressed those present on the benefits of trees in our countryside.

Other distinguished guests included Mayors and members from the Local Councils of Fontana, Ghasri, Kercem, Nadur and Xewkija.

The EDIC thanked all the participants, as well as to the help by personnel from the agriculture department, the event was highly successful it said.

“We hope that others may be encouraged to offer to sponsor another part of this project which the Rector of Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary would like to finish.”
