Students from Gozo College Gharb Primary attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Malta 2015 seminar on ‘Promoting wellbeing across the Commonwealth for present and future generations.’
This seminar formed part of the EkoSkola Young Citizens’ Summit and was opened by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
Pupils from schools across the islands were grouped into various interesting workshops and the group from Gharb attended the the workshop focusing on ‘Clean and safe water for all.’
They proposed that water should be made available in all areas to avoid children travelling large distances to fetch clean water at the expense of not attending school.
They also emphasised the need for clean water, as around 200 children die each hour because of contaminated water-related diseases.
The declaration which was written as a result of the feedback received from all the pupils in the five workshops was approved by all the pupils and presented to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.
The school said that the pupils enjoyed this session as they found it enriching, educational and empowering.
