Volunteers from Lagan Search & Rescue in Belfast, Northern Ireland, last week welcomed two representatives from the Emergency Response Rescue Corps of Gozo.

Following a visit to Lagan Search & Rescue's Operations & Training Centre and a tour of its new operational area, Heads of Discipline and Operational Management Committee convened to meet with the representatives from the ERRC, Etienne Micallef and Colin King.

During this meeting, plans for mutual aid, exchange and training programmes and joint development were discussed.

Such initiatives will see LSAR volunteers work alongside similar search & rescue teams from Europe and Canada whilst providing support to international deployments, LSAR said.

"This project will allow for exchange of training and ideas that will enhance LSAR's operational standing." LSAR also said that it will assist the development of its volunteers, giving access to skills and experience that will help the charity make Belfast a safer place for all.

Lagan Search & Rescue is an acute water rescue and independent lifeboat service, dedicated to the seaward side of River Lagan in Belfast and its immediate environment.

The charity provides a dedicated emergency response in agreement with Her Majesty's Coastguard and key partners and stakeholders.

Lagan Search & Rescue has developed an emergency Quayside Response that is tasked and co-ordinated by the local Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, MRCC Belfast.
