As part of the programme being undertaken during the week dedicated to the disabled, discussions have taken place between the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disability and the Arka Foundation, to enable more services to be available for disabled persons in Gozo.

This was announced by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Dr Justyne Caruana, during a visit to Dar Arka in Ghajnsielem, Gozo.

The Parliamentary Secretary visited a new apartment which was acquired by the Arka Foundation for people with disabilities. Justyne Caruana said that this apartment is compatible with the Government's plan of small houses in the community for people with disabilities.

She explained how this concept is of apartments or houses to accommodate a small number of residents, had to be in compliance with the National Standards for Residential Services for People with Disabilities, launched a few weeks ago. Dr Caruana also announced that they are just a few days away from the opening of the second house for disabled persons, which is in Victoria, Gozo.

During her visit the Parliamentary Secretary said that ways are currently being explored so that the disabled who are using the services of the Arka Foundation, also benefit from the services to be offered in the new Ghajnsielem learning hub, and vice versa.

Dr Caruana thanked the management of the of Arka Foundation for their work in assisting disabled persons in Gozo, and augured greater cooperation and interaction between the Secretariat and and the Foundation.
